📈 Edelman Ups Crypto Allocation to 40%—Here’s What He’s Recommending
The man who once told investors to dabble 1% in crypto now says... try 40%.
📌 What Happened:
Prominent financial advisor Ric Edelman is dramatically increasing his crypto allocation guidance.
For quick background, Edelman cofounded Edelman Financial Services in 1986 and founded the Digital Assets Council of Financial Professionals.
Oh, and he has $287B in assets under management (AUM) and 1.3M clients.
At this year’s VISION conference and in recent media interviews, Edelman said investors should now dedicate 10–40% of their portfolios to crypto, up from the 1%–2% range he previously recommended.
He also declared the traditional 60/40 stock-bond portfolio model obsolete.
At VISION, Edelman said:
10% crypto allocation for conservative investors
40% for aggressive growth portfolios
So what makes up that 10-40% allocation?
Edelman’s personal and professional strategy centers around:
Bitcoin (BTC) – core holding as digital gold and macro hedge
Ethereum (ETH) – high-conviction bet due to its commercial utility
Bitwise Top 10 Crypto Index Trust (BITW) – for diversified exposure beyond BTC/ETH
70% of BITW is still BTC and ETH
Remaining 30% spans other major altcoins (e.g. SOL, AVAX, UNI, LINK)
🗣️ What They’re Saying:
Some key quotes from Edelman:
“I will tell you what I generally recommend to folks…Number one, just Bitcoin. … Number two, Ethereum… I personally own more Ethereum than Bitcoin, but not by much … They’re the Coke and Pepsi of crypto. Just do the two of them and call it a day.”
“Third, if you want to be more diversified, I’m a big fan of the Bitwise Top 10 Crypto Index trust … They call it the S&P 500 of crypto … Bitcoin and Ethereum represent 70% of the fund, and then you got eight other coins that represent the fast growers.”
“If every investor who owns traditional assets allocates just 1% to bitcoin, bitcoin’s price would be $500,000.”
⚠️ Why It Matters:
Edelman’s shift is a big signal.
This is one of the most respected names in wealth management telling his investors, and Wall Street, to seriously size up crypto.
This is also not a short-term portfolio allocation change or trade.
He’s emphasized that retail and advisors alike should look at crypto as a permanent portfolio allocation.
Beyond the sizing, the bigger message is his why - Crypto now offers the diversification, upside, and uncorrelated returns missing from modern portfolios.
Read that again.
More upside and uncorrelated returns from traditional investment products.
Seems like a strong pitch to me.
First it was 0%, then it was 1-2%, now 10-40%…
The days of crypto becoming a mainstay in serious investors’ portfolios are just beginning.
